Why take the PADI Underwater Videography class?

The PADI Underwater Videographer Specialty course can help you learn how to take your fist Underwater Video or fine tune your existing skills to produce Video that will stun your friends.

You'll learn about selecting, maintaining and caring for your Underwater Video Equipment as well as safe diving practices.  Further, you'll learn Videography fundamentals, such as exposure, focus, shot types, moves, story line and shot sequencing.  Then you'll get to put your knowledge to actual use during your three open water dives.

What do I need to start?

You will need to have obtained a PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver certification or a qualifying certification from another organization and be at least 10 years old to enroll in the PADI Underwater Videographer course.
 

How much is it going to cost me?

This class includes the works -- classroom, pool, ocean dives and certification card! Sign up now and get a spot for the next class.

The total training fee is $175.00. The fees are broken down in order to provide many training options to our clients. The breakdown is as follows:

$150.00 Instructor / Certification Fee
 

In addition, we like to do one day of the course ocean dives of the Underwater Videographer from a Boat.  The Boat fee is $85.00.  We use the Escapade in Monterey.  For more information on the Escapade click here.

When you sign up for the class, the classroom / pool fee will be collected by the dive shop and the instructor / certification fee will be collected on the first night of class by the instructor.

What is the class schedule?

The Underwater Videographer course is a one week class consisting of one class session, one pool session and three ocean dives done over two days.

What will I be doing?

You'll learn the basics of Underwater Videography such as composition, film type and camera handling, with special emphasis on practical techniques.

You'll learn Underwater Videography dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and potential problems.

You'll also learn how to care for and maintain your video camera equipment.

What will I need to buy?

You will need to purchase the following items if needed:
  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Manual (Adventures In Diving)
  • Slate with pencil
  • Signaling device (whistle)
  • Underwater Video Camera (purchased or rented)
Before your ocean dives, you will need your own personal snorkeling gear which includes a mask, snorkel, fins, boots, gloves.

You will also need to have a PADI dive table or wheel and a timing device or dive computer and a log book.

What can I rent?

You may rent the rest of your SCUBA diving equipment if needed. This includes your wetsuit, hood, regulator with compass, weight belt, buoyancy control device (BCD) and tanks.

What about the Instructor?

All of the scheduled classes will be taught by Mike Davis, PADI Instructor and Manager of Diver Dan's.  Mike has over eight years of experience in Underwater Photography and Videography and with his enthusiasm he brings to us his experience in all types of camera systems, from simple point and shoot cameras to complex 35mm systems to housed digital systems!  This is the course if underwater pictures are important to you!

Medical Concerns or Questions?

If you are currently under the care of a Medical Doctor, or have a pre-existing medical condition that requires permission from a Physician, you will need to have a signed Medical Release form from your doctor before you can participate in any in-water activities.

OK - I'm ready! - What are the class dates?

Being a PADI 5-Star CDC, Diver Dan's has the largest staff of instructors in the Bay Area.  This allows us to offer class schedules that are sure to meet your needs.  However, if you find that you are unable to find a class that fits into you schedule, just let us know as there are many options available to you.

Dive one of your Underwater Videographer Specialty Dives counts towards the Advanced Diver Certification at the Instructor's discretion.  This Specialty also counts as one of the five Specialties required toward your Master Scuba Diver certification.
