Who is Diver's Alert Network?

Divers Alert Network (DAN) is a non-profit medical and research organization dedicated to the safety and health of recreational scuba divers and is located at Duke University Medical Center.  DAN is supported by individual divers and by every diver association around the world.

Founded in 1980, DAN has served as a lifeline for the scuba industry by operating diving's only 24-hour emergency hotline, a lifesaving service for injured divers. Additionally, DAN operates a diving medical information line, conducts vital diving medical research, and develops and provides a number of educational programs for everyone from beginning divers to medical professionals.

What is the On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers Program?

Approximately two-thirds of divers with decompression illness have evidence of damage to the nervous system. These signs are often vague and can go unrecognized by the diver. This can cause them to be dismissed as insignificant or not dive-related.

This program focuses on how to obtain essential information about a diver involved in a dive emergency and what information to relay to emergency medical services.

Only medical professionals should diagnose medical conditions. The information you gather while performing a neurological assessment will be useful to help the dive physician understand the extent of the injury and how it has changed in the time it took to get the diver from the dive site to definitive care.

How much is it going to cost me?

The total training fee is $50.00 and the fee is broken down in order to provide many training options to our clients. The breakdown is as follows:

$25.00 Registration Fee
$25.00 Instructor Fee

When you sign up for a class, the registration fee will be collected and the instructor will collect the instructor and certification fee during the class session.
